Trust Wallet, a leading self-custody cryptocurrency wallet, has officially launched a gas sponsorship feature that enables users to swap tokens on the Ethereum network without paying gas fees themselves. This innovation directly addresses a long-standing barrier to entry and usability on Ethereum: the requirement to hold ETH solely to pay for transaction costs.
The feature, now active within the Trust Wallet app, automatically covers the gas fees for qualifying swaps. This allows users to execute token swaps even if their wallet holds zero ETH, significantly lowering friction for everyday Ethereum usage. The gas sponsorship is built directly into the swap process, requiring no manual settings changes from the user.
Key operational details include daily limits and minimum transaction amounts. On Ethereum, users can conduct up to four free swaps per day, with each swap requiring a minimum value of $50. Interestingly, the same gas-free swap service is also available on BNB Chain, but without a minimum transaction amount requirement.
The company has stated that this feature currently focuses on swaps, with plans to expand the gas sponsorship service to include standard token transfers in the future. This would enable users to send assets like USDT without needing ETH for gas, creating a more frictionless experience.
This development is part of a broader trend in crypto to abstract away blockchain complexity for end-users. By sponsoring gas, Trust Wallet is effectively subsidizing user onboarding and activity, betting on increased engagement. The move follows other recent Trust Wallet integrations, such as with Revolut for instant crypto purchases in the EU and the addition of a Predictions feature for event-based trading.
