The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) have rescheduled their joint event focused on cryptocurrency regulation to Thursday, January 29, 2026. The event was originally planned for January 27th.
The gathering, titled "CFTC – SEC Compliance Process: US Financial Leadership in the Crypto Age," will be held at the CFTC headquarters in Washington, D.C. It is described as part of a broader effort to embrace the digital asset ecosystem and adapt to the changing regulatory environment.
The event will feature a fireside chat and conversation between SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins and CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig, moderated by crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett. The discussion will center on the position of crypto assets within the U.S. financial system, the alignment of authority and enforcement between the two regulatory bodies, and strategies for the U.S. to strengthen its global financial leadership in the cryptocurrency era.
In a joint statement, the agencies acknowledged that "market participants have long been challenged by unclear and inconsistent regulatory boundaries." The event aims to advance interagency alignment efforts to foster innovation "on American soil, under American law, and in the best interests of investors and consumers." The initiative is also linked to a goal, pursued by U.S. President Donald Trump, of making the United States the "crypto capital of the world."
The event will be open to the public and live-streamed on the SEC's official website, beginning at 2:00 PM ET (22:00 Turkish Time, UTC+3).
