The Cardano Foundation has officially launched the Cardano Rosetta Java v2.0.0, a major backend infrastructure upgrade for the Cardano (ADA) network. Announced on the foundation's official X page, this release is a key tool for standardizing blockchain data access via the Rosetta API, aiming to provide seamless integrations for exchanges and wallets without the need for custom coding.
A core improvement is a significant reduction in synchronization time. The upgrade slashes the sync time for exchanges from approximately 52 hours down to 37 hours, representing a roughly 30% faster synchronization. This enhancement is critical for reducing downtime and ensuring faster recovery when an exchange needs to onboard Cardano or a service must resync from scratch, leading to more stable deposits and withdrawals.
The technical upgrades within v2.0.0 are substantial. It includes newer Cardano nodes (v10.5.x) with Ouroboros Genesis support for improved security and long-term scalability. The integration of Mithril enables faster and safer blockchain data verification, aiming to prevent edge-case failures. The overall system has been redesigned to be cleaner, more modular, and easier to extend, which is vital for future Cardano features and scaling plans.
The upgrade does come with significant implementation requirements for developers and node operators. Anyone upgrading must resync from "genesis" to ensure clean and consistent data. Furthermore, operators are now required to use Docker Compose or Kubernetes/Helm charts, moving away from simpler "one-click" Docker containers. While these changes demand more effort upfront, the Cardano Foundation states they guarantee a more robust and reliable foundation.
By making the ecosystem more reliable for integration with major platforms, the upgrade could indirectly benefit ADA. More exchanges may support Cardano with lower risk of operational halts, potentially increasing adoption.
