A catastrophic sell-off has obliterated the value of the Power Protocol (POWER) token, with its price collapsing by over 90% in a 24-hour period. On-chain analysis has directly linked the crash to a massive $16.23 million token dump from a wallet associated with the project's team.
The event unfolded between the evening of March 2 and the morning of March 3, 2025. According to data from on-chain analyst EmberCN, the Ethereum address 0x9D70054a57798bc255D8F866F006744fB3A09d63, identified as team-linked, transferred 30 million POWER tokens to centralized exchanges Bitget and MEXC. The timing of these deposits coincided precisely with the start of the token's steep descent from around $1.86 to a low of approximately $0.17764.
This crash erased the token's previous meteoric 1400% rally, which had seen it reach an all-time high of $2.57 on March 2. The unsustainable rally created a fragile market ripe for a liquidity shock. The team's sell order, representing a significant portion of the token's liquid supply, overwhelmed the market's ability to absorb it, triggering a cascade of automated sells and panic selling among retail investors.
The incident has severely damaged trust in the Power Protocol project. Reports indicate the team has gone silent, leaving launchpad buyers and early investors with no recourse. The crash also highlights recurring risks in the DeFi sector: concentrated token ownership, lack of transparent vesting schedules, and the severe information disadvantage faced by retail investors. Analysts note the crypto market lacks standardized disclosures for insider sales, unlike traditional markets where large shareholders must file advance notices.
Power Protocol, which launched in early 2026, was positioned as a network for on-chain gaming and had recently announced an investment from Bitkraft Protocol. Despite signs of long-term funding, the project ended in what is being described as a classic 'rug pull'. The token's liquidity on DEX PancakeSwap, which carried over 41% of its volume, fell to just $121K following the crash.
