OpenPayd, a prominent provider of financial infrastructure bridging traditional finance and digital assets, has announced the formal appointment of Barry O'Sullivan as its Chief Banking Officer. This move strengthens the company's executive leadership team as it scales its global banking network and financial infrastructure platform.
O'Sullivan, who originally joined OpenPayd in 2022, will now lead the company's global banking partnership and expansion efforts. His role involves overseeing relationships with banking partners and driving the strategic expansion of OpenPayd's network into new jurisdictions. The company highlighted that over the past year, it has significantly expanded its multi-currency capabilities and extended domestic virtual IBAN coverage across key European markets.
These infrastructure enhancements allow businesses to open accounts in more currencies, collect payments via dedicated virtual IBANs, and move funds internationally more efficiently through a single API. This is particularly relevant for digital-asset businesses, as OpenPayd's platform is "rails-agnostic," enabling the movement and management of money globally across both fiat and digital assets.
CEO Iana Dimitrova stated, "Barry has built out OpenPayd’s banking partner ecosystem and has been instrumental in developing our global footprint. His leadership will play an important role in strengthening the banking partnerships that underpin our platform and support our clients’ global growth." O'Sullivan added that strong banking partnerships are fundamental to OpenPayd's mission of providing the infrastructure for global money movement.
The announcement underscores OpenPayd's position as a critical infrastructure layer for the crypto economy. The company is trusted by major crypto brands like Kraken, OKX, eToro, and B2C2, processing over $180 billion in annual volume for more than 1,000 businesses. Its services include embedded accounts, FX, payments, and notably, stablecoin on/off ramps, which are vital for interoperability between traditional finance and digital assets.
