Alphabet’s Google and OpenAI have separately signed AI agreements with Singapore, deepening the city-state’s ambition to become a global artificial intelligence hub. The deals were announced alongside the ATxSummit technology conference. OpenAI committed S$300 million (~$234 million) to Singapore’s AI ecosystem and will open its first overseas Applied AI Lab in the country, employing over 200 people to focus on education, healthcare, finance, and public services. Google expanded its existing 2022 AI partnership into education, healthcare, and scientific research without a direct financial commitment, instead emphasizing workforce training, agentic AI tools for researchers, and a joint whitepaper on safe AI agent deployment.
In a separate, massive infrastructure move, Google announced a $15 billion investment in Missouri—the largest tech project in the state’s history. The centerpiece is a new data center in New Florence, Montgomery County, which will create thousands of construction jobs and hundreds of permanent positions. Google has already contracted over 1 gigawatt of new generation capacity through utility partner Ameren, with another 500 megawatts in development. Under 2025 Missouri legislation, Google will cover 100% of power and infrastructure costs, shielding local ratepayers. A $20 million Energy Impact Fund will finance home efficiency upgrades and skilled trades training in surrounding counties.
