South Korean brokerage DB Securities has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Optimism Foundation to develop tokenized securities (STOs) and real-world asset (RWA) projects centered on the Jeju region. The agreement was formalized at Optimism’s New York headquarters, with Kyle Jenke, Chief Business Officer of Optimism, and Ju-shik Lee, head of DB Securities’ digital assets team, signing under the title “Promotion of Jeju-Specific STO/RWA Businesses and the Discovery of Global Collaborative Business Models”.
The first joint initiative will tokenize Jeju-linked assets including smart farms, livestock, and Korean intellectual property (K-IP). DB Securities will build and operate the platform, while Optimism provides the underlying blockchain infrastructure through its managed OP Stack. The choice of Optimism is driven by its ability to let regulated institutions run their own infrastructure, settling on Ethereum while maintaining control over their roadmap and risk management.
The project will be deployed in phases over two years, aligned with Korean financial regulatory frameworks. DB Securities estimates the model will reduce initial capital expenditure and shorten time-to-launch by building on production-ready infrastructure. This collaboration forms the second leg of a two-pronged strategy to replicate blockchain-based financial infrastructure models across different regions.
