The Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement System, which manages a $16.3 billion asset pool, has deepened its indirect exposure to Bitcoin by increasing its stake in Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy). According to BitcoinTreasuries.NET, the fund now holds 21,300 common shares of MSTR, valued at approximately $2.13 million. This move expands the state pension’s initial position without the need to directly custody digital assets.
Strategy, led by Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, is known for its aggressive Bitcoin treasury policy, funding acquisitions through debt and equity offerings. The company’s stock price has historically shown a close correlation with the cryptocurrency’s performance, providing the pension fund a regulated pathway to Bitcoin’s price movements. By purchasing equity rather than the token itself, the retirement system obtains exposure while preserving traditional operational and custodial standards.
The decision highlights a growing trend among government-managed funds seeking digital asset exposure through publicly traded instruments. Analysts note that such institutional allocations, even in relatively small dollar amounts, signal broader acceptance of Bitcoin within conservative investment frameworks. The final weight of this holding will be disclosed in forthcoming quarterly filings.
