Lido, the dominant Ethereum staking protocol, has embarked on a landmark migration of over 8 million ETH—worth approximately $16.5 billion—to its new Curated Module v2 architecture. This move, part of the broader Core 2026 Upgrade, is engineered to consolidate numerous smaller validators into Ethereum’s post-Pectra design, a step that could reduce the network’s total validator count by roughly one-third.
The transition promises to enhance network efficiency significantly. By merging validators, Lido expects to slash attestation messages by around 29% per epoch, lightening the load on Ethereum’s consensus layer. For the first time, all curated node operators will be required to post ETH bonds, adding a new layer of accountability. Crucially, existing stakers need to take no action—the upgrade is seamless at the protocol level.
Aligning with Ethereum’s long-term roadmap, this migration is a response to scalability demands and the evolving staking landscape. As the largest liquid staking provider, Lido’s overhaul could instill greater confidence among users and boost liquidity for staked ETH, even as the broader market remains cautiously optimistic.
