Bitcoin ETFs Bleed Funds as Investors Rotate Into Ethereum, XRP, and Solana

Key takeaways:

  • Sector rotation into altcoin ETFs suggests investors are positioning for regulatory clarity and higher beta.
  • XRP ETF AUM crossing $1 billion despite low inflows signals strategic accumulation.
  • Inflows concentrated in BlackRock's ETHA and Franklin's XRPZ signal brand-driven institutional ETF selection.

Institutional appetite is shifting. While U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs posted their third consecutive day of net outflows, funds tied to Ethereum and XRP attracted fresh capital — and XRP’s total ETF assets smashed through the $1 billion mark.

According to Farside Investors, Bitcoin ETFs leaked roughly $11.6 million on July 27. BlackRock’s IBIT led the retreat with $8.8 million in redemptions, and Fidelity’s FBTC followed with $2.8 million. Every other BTC fund — from Bitwise’s BITB to Grayscale’s GBTC — recorded zero flows, underscoring the tepid demand.

Ethereum ETFs, by contrast, snapped back with net inflows of about $11.7 million on the same day. BlackRock’s ETHA singularly drew the entire sum, while Fidelity’s FETH, Grayscale’s Mini ETH, and others sat idle. Solana ETFs also notched a modest $1 million inflow, though the Hyperliquid-related HYPE product suffered a $2.9 million outflow.

The story grew richer on July 28. Spot XRP ETFs pulled in just $592,470 — the session’s entire positive flow — all through Franklin Templeton’s XRPZ fund. Competitors including Bitwise, Canary, 21Shares, and Grayscale ended the day with zero net additions. Despite the trickle, cumulative assets under management across U.S. XRP ETFs crossed the $1 billion threshold for the first time. XRPZ itself holds approximately $257.13 million, while Bitwise remains the largest XRP ETF with $314.08 million. Total daily trading volume across all XRP ETFs reached $12.66 million.

Franklin Templeton also voiced support for the CLARITY Act, a proposed bill aimed at establishing clearer regulatory lines for digital assets. The firm argued that definitive oversight would keep blockchain innovation onshore. This institutional endorsement, combined with rising ETF assets, signals that even during calmer flow days, strategic positioning in altcoin vehicles is gaining momentum.
