Jupiter, a leading decentralized exchange aggregator in the Solana ecosystem, has officially launched Jupiter Lend V2, a major upgrade to its lending protocol. The new version introduces a dual-use liquidity model that allows users to employ both deposited and borrowed assets as trading liquidity, simultaneously earning lending interest and swap fees. This innovation aims to slash idle capital and unlock new yield opportunities within decentralized finance.
The protocol now offers two optional mechanisms: Smart Collateral and Smart Debt. With Smart Collateral, users who supply USDC, USDT, SOL, or JupSOL can automatically pair those assets with correlated liquidity pools, generating lending income while collecting trading fees and, where applicable, staking rewards. Smart Debt applies a similar structure to borrowed assets, allowing trading fees from the associated liquidity position to offset borrowing costs. This essentially converts borrowing into a more capital-efficient activity.
According to DeFiLlama data, Jupiter Lend currently holds approximately $1.9 billion in deposits, with active loans totaling around $822.7 million (per Token Terminal). Over the past 30 days, the platform generated roughly $1.6 million in fees. The dual-use feature is expected to strengthen these numbers by incentivizing users to maximize asset utility.
Risk management remains central to the design. The protocol uses primary-market oracles for margin valuation, reducing the risk of unnecessary liquidations caused by temporary price swings. Positions can still be liquidated if the loan-to-value ratio exceeds the applicable threshold. Additionally, the dual-use strategy is limited to correlated assets, primarily stablecoin pairs and SOL/liquid-staked SOL pairs, to mitigate the impact of a potential depeg.
The upgrade deepens Jupiter's role as Solana's premier DeFi hub, linking lending directly with its swap aggregation engine. Trade routing, however, remains impartial—Jupiter's router does not prioritize its own vaults, ensuring competitive pricing. For everyday DeFi users, this means the ability to earn passive income on idle collateral while maintaining the flexibility to trade, potentially reducing transaction costs and improving market depth on the platform.
