Robinhood has officially launched cryptocurrency trading for UK investors, marking a major expansion of its local investment platform beyond stocks, options, and futures. The rollout, which begins this week, is powered by Bitstamp UK Ltd, the firm Robinhood acquired for $200 million in 2024. Users will have access to over 50 digital assets, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), XRP, and Hyperliquid (HYPE), with more to follow.
The new service comes with zero trading, account maintenance, or custody fees. However, a 0.1% foreign exchange (FX) fee will be applied during weekdays, rising to 0.3% on weekends. Jordan Sinclair, President of Robinhood UK Ltd and GM of Bitstamp UK Ltd, commented: “A new wave of UK investors sees digital assets as an important part of a diversified portfolio. With today’s launch, we’re taking another major step toward becoming the all-in-one investment platform for the UK.”
In a bid to enhance user education, Robinhood is also introducing Cortex Digests for Crypto, an AI-powered tool that synthesizes market news, technical indicators, and other data to explain the factors driving price movements for individual crypto assets. The feature is rolling out in phases and is expected to differentiate Robinhood in a crowded UK market.
The launch leverages Bitstamp’s existing regulatory approvals and trading infrastructure, allowing Robinhood to operate compliantly under the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) framework. This positions Robinhood to compete with established local crypto platforms and traditional brokers that have already added digital asset services.
Meanwhile, Robinhood’s proprietary blockchain, Robinhood Chain, continues to gain traction. Since its global launch, the network has generated over $18 billion in decentralized exchange (DEX) trading volume, with total value locked (TVL) exceeding $840 million. The blockchain also recently became the largest by number of real-world asset (RWA) holders.
