The tokenized real-world asset market has expanded to $44.7 billion over the past three years, with Ethereum firmly established as the leading settlement layer. According to data from Token Terminal, the sector has grown by approximately 2,228%, turning tokenized RWAs into a major on-chain asset class.
Ethereum alone hosts $23.3 billion in tokenized assets, representing more than half of the total market. Its mature infrastructure, deep liquidity, and extensive developer ecosystem have made it the preferred network for issuers of tokenized securities, funds, and other real-world assets. Major institutional players, including BlackRock’s BUIDL fund, have selected Ethereum as their settlement layer.
Other networks such as BNB Chain, zkSync Era, Solana, XRP Ledger, Stellar, and Avalanche have also captured meaningful activity. These platforms offer different trade-offs in transaction speed, cost, and scalability. BNB Chain benefits from its Binance-linked user base, zkSync provides zero-knowledge rollup technology with lower fees, and Solana appeals to high-frequency applications through high throughput and low latency.
Growth has been driven by increasing tokenization of government securities, private credit, and real estate. Tokenization offers fractional ownership, around-the-clock trading, and improved transparency, attracting both retail and institutional investors. Still, the market faces regulatory uncertainty and evolving custody and secondary market infrastructure, creating a dynamic but unpredictable landscape.
