Solana has begun a staged reduction of mainnet slot times from 400 ms to 350 ms, with the change set to take effect at epoch 1020 on August 21, 2026. The update is part of the Agave v4.2 validator client developed by Anza and represents the first of four incremental upgrades aimed at eventually reaching 200 ms slot times.

Testnet performance supports the accelerated timeline. Work is also underway on program caching, vote verification, transaction processing, snapshots, and developer tools including Web3.js, Kit, Solana Go, and Anchor.
