Wyoming Drops LayerZero, Migrates FRNT to Chainlink CCIP

Key takeaways:

  • Wyoming's shift cements Chainlink CCIP as institutional-grade standard, boosting LINK's long-term utility.
  • Roughly $15 billion in assets leaving LayerZero signals accelerating trust erosion, likely pressuring ZRO.
  • Chainlink's growing cross-chain dominance introduces concentration risk if CCIP faces a security incident.

The Wyoming Stable Token Commission has officially migrated the Frontier Stable Token (FRNT) to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), ending its previous implementation on LayerZero. The decision was announced on August 18, 2026, after what the Commission described as an exhaustive security review.

Under a multi-year contract, CCIP will serve as the exclusive cross-chain infrastructure for the state-issued stablecoin. The Commission said it is deprecating the LayerZero bridge, including Stargate, and will complete the deprecation of legacy smart contracts in the coming weeks. FRNT will remain available across multiple chains, including Ethereum, Base, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Hedera, Optimism, Polygon, and Solana.

Wyoming’s move follows the Kelp DAO exploit four months earlier, in which attackers drained 116,500 rsETH worth about $292 million from a LayerZero-based bridge. That incident triggered broader technical reviews and accelerated institutional migration toward Chainlink. Protocols such as Solv Protocol and Re, along with Kraken, shifted interoperability infrastructure to Chainlink, and BitGo selected CCIP for $7.7 billion in Wrapped Bitcoin. In total, roughly $15 billion in digital assets have migrated away from LayerZero.

The Commission stressed that FRNT is fully backed by U.S. dollars and short-term U.S. Treasuries, with yield income designated for Wyoming’s School Foundation Program. Chainlink highlighted CCIP’s defense-in-depth security model, including SOC 2 Type 2 certification, audited code, built-in risk controls, and validation by at least 16 independent node operators.

“By adopting Chainlink CCIP, we now have highly secure cross-chain infrastructure that meets the standard our citizens deserve,” said Anthony Apollo, Executive Director of the Wyoming Stable Token Commission. Sergey Nazarov, Co-Founder of Chainlink, said Wyoming’s selection shows governments and serious institutions need “secure, reliable, and standard-setting infrastructure” to move digital assets across chains at scale.
