Arbitrum is moving toward a faster settlement architecture. Offchain Labs is advancing work to integrate zero-knowledge proofs into Arbitrum’s BoLD settlement protocol, a proposal designed to cut Ethereum withdrawal times from seven days to a few hours while preserving the network’s existing optimistic fraud proofs. The approach would add ZK fast confirmations alongside Arbitrum’s current dispute system rather than replacing fraud proofs entirely.
This multi-proving model is a key technical step. By combining ZK proofs with optimistic mechanisms, Arbitrum could preserve parts of its security framework while offering faster verification and a more competitive user experience for moving assets between the layer-2 and Ethereum mainnet. The upgrade is not live on mainnet; a DAO vote is still required before any deployment.
Arbitrum’s ecosystem metrics underscore growing adoption. The network has surpassed 10,000 Real World Asset holders, with projects such as Tether Gold and Ondo U.S. Dollar Yield contributing to tokenization activity. Arbitrum One now ranks second in perpetual trading with $1.48 billion in volume and $1.834 billion in open interest. The broader momentum includes $5 million in fee revenue generated by Robinhood Chain in just over a month and partnerships with BVNKFinance supporting USDC transactions on Arbitrum.
For traders and developers, the next milestone is governance. If the Arbitrum DAO supports deployment, attention will turn to security reviews, rollout timing and real-world performance. A successful upgrade could strengthen Arbitrum’s position in the layer-2 market, but until the DAO vote passes, withdrawal times should not be assumed to have already changed.
