Circle Internet Group has become Chelsea FC’s new principal front-of-shirt sponsor starting with the 2026/27 Premier League season, placing the USDC stablecoin brand on the front of the club’s Men’s, Women’s, and Academy shirts. The deal marks the first time a crypto financial services firm has held the principal front-of-shirt role at a Premier League club; previous crypto arrangements in the league have been limited to sleeve deals, such as OKX with Manchester City and Kraken with Tottenham Hotspur.
The USDC branding will make its debut on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, when Chelsea host Brighton in their first home league match of the season. Chelsea opened the 2026/27 campaign with a 3-2 away win at Fulham while playing without a shirt sponsor. The front-of-shirt position had been vacant for three years, and Chelsea was reportedly targeting around £65 million ($88.3 million) per year for the slot. Circle and Chelsea did not disclose the final financial terms. Circle’s stock, trading under the ticker CRCL, closed at $94.24 ahead of the announcement.
Regulatory positioning was a key element of the partnership. Circle has held an FCA e-money license since 2016, helping it clear scrutiny after the Financial Conduct Authority warned Premier League clubs in June about partnering with unauthorized crypto firms under financial promotion rules. Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said the company built USDC “on the belief that money should work seamlessly for everyone everywhere, the way the internet does,” while Chelsea President Jason Gannon framed the collaboration as a step toward “football’s digital evolution.”
Stablecoin market data underscores the visibility opportunity: total stablecoin supply has reached $292.2 billion, with Tether’s USDT at $183.3 billion, or 62.7%, and Circle’s USDC at $73.9 billion, representing 25.3% after adding about $1 billion over the past week. The company also noted USDC is set to operate under the GENIUS Act framework signed into law last year. Circle views the Chelsea partnership as part of a broader push to move stablecoins from early adoption into mainstream use.
