Trump-Themed GOLD Rug Pull Wipes Out $54M in 30 Seconds

Key takeaways:

  • GOLD's collapse underscores how concentrated supply turns viral hype into exit liquidity.
  • Deleted promotional posts signal verification gaps; traders should audit on-chain distribution first.
  • Rug pulls erode retail trust in Solana memecoins, potentially dampening near-term speculative flows.

A Trump-themed memecoin called GOLD on Solana collapsed in seconds on Saturday after a promotional post on X disappeared, turning a viral pump into what analysts are calling a classic rug pull.

The token briefly reached a $66 million market capitalization after the account realtrumpcoins1 posted its contract address. The account markets Trump-branded collectible coins and claims to be an official Trump Organization partner. The post was later deleted, and questions emerged over whether the account was compromised.

Immediately after the deletion, GOLD’s market cap plunged from roughly $55 million to $1 million within 30 seconds. On-chain data showed linked wallets controlled 82.454% of the GOLD supply before selling for about $1.01 million. Fifteen new wallets reportedly turned an initial $18,657 into about $330,000, netting roughly $312,000.

The incident highlights how viral memecoin rallies can leave late traders with almost no exit, especially when supply is heavily concentrated and promotional posts can vanish without warning.
