Bottomline, one of the top three Swift service providers globally, announced on Thursday that it has entered a strategic partnership with Chainlink to bring cross-border and cross-chain payment capabilities to its institutional network. Bottomline processes more than $16 trillion in annual financial transactions across platforms serving over 600 bank customers.
The integration will use Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) and the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) as an orchestration and interoperability layer. This architecture enables banks to connect with public and permissioned blockchain networks through the existing ISO 20022 financial messaging standard, without requiring changes to their core operating systems. It is designed to reduce common friction points such as settlement delays and manual reconciliations.
According to the announcement, the partnership is a significant step toward institutional adoption of blockchain rails in the traditional financial system and could lay the groundwork for tokenized settlements at global scale. The next phase is expected to include initial pilot flows between financial institutions connected to Bottomline’s network.
