Revolut has secured conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish a national bank, clearing a major regulatory hurdle in its U.S. expansion. The confirmation was announced on September 3, 2026, and backed by founder Nik Storonsky. The approval marks the first formal federal endorsement for the creation of Revolut Bank US, an entity intended to offer insured deposits, loans, credit cards, and other banking services directly.
The fintech also plans to connect traditional banking with cryptocurrencies and stablecoins, integrating digital assets and institutional payments under its own federal banking supervision instead of relying only on partner entities. Revolut expects the proposed bank to launch in 2027, but still needs approvals from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Federal Reserve, and final OCC clearance before commercial operations can begin.
The OCC decision places Revolut among institutions such as Circle that have received federal green lights to expand tokenized financial infrastructure in the United States. The move reflects a gradual opening of U.S. regulators toward hybrid fintech models with digital asset services, although no specific cryptocurrency token was named in the announcement.
