Polymarket Adds Private Squads; DoubleZero Defends Open Kalshi Data

Key takeaways:

  • Squads social trading risks herding and latency arbitrage among Polymarket US users.
  • DoubleZero's Kalshi feed splits prediction-market liquidity; retail faces speed disadvantage.
  • Kalshi crypto-perp expansion tests CFTC turf amid state court divisions.

Polymarket has launched Squads inside its US app, creating invitation-only group chats where members can discuss markets, share positions, and trade directly from another member's selections. The company said each participant continues to trade through an individual Polymarket account; there is no pooled money or delegated trading authority described in the announcement.

The feature is initially limited to Polymarket US, which operates through a federally regulated designated contract market. That distinction matters as state-level access to prediction markets remains contested. Recent litigation, including Baltimore's challenge to sports event contracts, shows federal market status has not ended jurisdictional arguments.

Squads brings social discussion into the trading interface. Users can create private groups, exchange messages, share individual positions and multi-market combinations, view other members' activity, and open a trade from a shared selection. Polymarket has not yet disclosed group-size limits, moderation policies, message-retention periods, or whether shared positions display entry prices and current value.

Social trading also raises conduct questions. A popular member can influence several accounts at once, and another participant may enter after the quoted probability has moved. Polymarket US will need to apply its existing market rules inside Squads, especially as the CFTC has emphasized authority over insider trading in event contracts.

The launch is paired with Polymarket HQ, a football-season campaign directed by Peter Berg and featuring LeBron James, Eli Manning, Derek Jeter, Spike Lee, Sue Bird and others. The campaign presents prediction trading as a shared activity rather than a solitary interface.

Separately, DoubleZero co-founder Austin Federa defended open access to Kalshi's faster election-market data feed. He confirmed that DoubleZero Edge is a read-only distribution platform with no execution functionality. Participants cannot submit, route, or complete trades through the infrastructure.

DoubleZero Edge distributes Kalshi's full election order book, including bids, offers and completed trades, over dedicated fiber and multicast. Federa said any participant can subscribe to the same stream, and argued that professional traders compete on speed with each other while tighter competition among market makers can produce narrower spreads and better prices for other users. Access still requires a paid subscription linked to a cryptographic identity and the receiving machine's internet address.

Federa compared the setup to traditional exchanges such as the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq and CME, which broadcast data to subscribers over private fiber through multicast. Kalshi's public API and WebSocket remain dependent on public-internet routes. DoubleZero will publish transport benchmarks but will leave market-quality reporting to Kalshi.

Kalshi continues to expand within both prediction markets and regulated U.S. derivatives trading. The exchange recently added five crypto perpetuals tied to BNB, Cardano, Worldcoin, Aave and Venice Token, bringing its lineup to Bitcoin and 17 altcoin perpetual contracts. CME Group has challenged the CFTC's treatment of Kalshi's Bitcoin perpetual contract.

The Kalshi announcement arrives amid an uneven U.S. legal environment. Conflicting state court rulings could divide prediction-market access and liquidity, with federal oversight of designated contract markets at the center of the dispute.
