BNB Chain has overtaken Solana in decentralized finance total value locked (TVL), according to data reported on September 14, 2026. The network now holds approximately $5.94 billion in locked assets, narrowly surpassing Solana’s $5.89 billion.
Binance co-founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao acknowledged the milestone on X, saying it is “Still a long way to flip ETH. Not a competition. Keep building!” Zhao stressed that blockchain rankings should not be treated as a race, encouraging developers and ecosystems to continue improving.
Ethereum remains firmly in first place with roughly $49.95 billion in DeFi TVL. Base follows BNB Chain and Solana with about $5.63 billion, while Tron ranks fifth at approximately $5.47 billion.
The narrow gap among BNB Chain, Solana, Base and Tron highlights intensifying competition in the smart-contract sector. BNB Chain’s rise reflects growing activity across its decentralized exchanges, lending platforms and onchain applications, while its connection to the broader Binance ecosystem continues to support user adoption. However, DeFi TVL remains one of several measures of blockchain adoption, and sustaining the ranking will depend on liquidity, application growth and user demand.
