The XRP Ledger has set a new all-time high for transaction throughput within a single ledger, according to XRP Ledger Foundation community director Hussein Zangana, known as Vet. The latest peak reached 3,254 transactions in one block on September 14, 2026, surpassing an earlier record of 2,768 transactions validated in a single ledger just a day earlier.
Vet noted that the burst was dominated by payments of a single drop—the smallest divisible unit of XRP—circulated through roughly 20 accounts. The pattern suggests automated bots were performing throughput testing rather than organic user payment demand. Despite the concentrated load, XRPL maintained stable consensus and completed validation in about 3.8 seconds without disruption, with several other ledgers also processing more than 2,000 transactions during the period.
The network’s adaptive design means there is no fixed maximum transaction count per ledger. Vet explained that if a ledger packs more than the soft target and still closes quickly, the target can rise, indicating healthy consensus and allowing the network to clear more transactions. He also cautioned that not all transactions have an equal load footprint, so simple payments are not equivalent to more complex operations.
Beyond the throughput milestone, XRPL development is advancing through xrpld 3.3.0, released on August 6. The package includes BatchV1_1, ConfidentialTransfer, DynamicMPT, PermissionDelegationV1_1 and Sponsor, alongside protocol fixes. BatchV1_1 is closest to the required validator threshold, with 27 of 35 trusted validators signaling support as of September 14. Additional work covers zero-knowledge identity through XLS-40 and Credentials via XLS-70, as well as lending, decentralized trading, and the activated fixCleanup3_3_0 amendment.
Vet advised node operators to review WebSocket message limits if they receive 1008 policy errors, as larger transaction batches may require higher limits. Overall, the event served as an unexpected stress test for validators, nodes, and connected infrastructure, demonstrating XRPL’s stability under concentrated activity.
