BitGo has officially launched BitGo Research, a new research division led by Greg Cipolaro, the former Global Head of Research at NYDIG. The unit will provide recurring market commentary, thematic reports and data-led analysis covering digital asset markets, market structure and emerging industry trends for institutional clients.
The move follows BitGo's acquisition of NYDIG's institutional trading business and related assets, which added roughly 30 employees as well as derivatives, structured products, financing capabilities and institutional client relationships. At NYDIG, Cipolaro built research focused on bitcoin and institutional digital asset markets, and BitGo intends to continue that work for its own clients.
BitGo Chief Executive Mike Belshe said, 'Greg is a widely respected voice in digital asset research, and bringing his expertise in-house allows us to offer clients an even deeper level of market insight.' Pete Janney, Head of Financial Infrastructure at BitGo, said Cipolaro's research was central to the value of the acquired NYDIG institutional trading franchise.
BitGo says its position across custody, trading, financing and settlement gives the research team visibility into institutional activity that is difficult to obtain from public price data alone. The company has also expanded its institutional network this year, with Virtu joining BitGo Prime as a liquidity provider, Spotex connecting its electronic trading venue to BitGo custody, and Caladan adding BitGo settlement to its institutional liquidity interface.
The next test will be editorial independence. Since BitGo also provides execution, financing and custody, the value of the new research unit will depend on whether its analysis separates evidence from product promotion and addresses risks as clearly as opportunities. BitGo has not yet published a schedule or named the first report.
