Shiba Inu (SHIB) Goes Live on Solana via Sunrise

Key takeaways:

  • SHIB's muted price reaction suggests Solana DeFi access alone may not drive near-term demand.
  • Canonical SHIB via Sunrise may deepen Solana liquidity, but Wormhole bridge risks warrant caution.
  • Dogecoin and PEPE listings suggest Solana's gateway strategy is structural, not a short-term SHIB catalyst.

Shiba Inu (SHIB), one of the largest meme cryptocurrencies, has officially gone live on the Solana network through the Sunrise asset gateway. The integration, announced on October 4, 2026, gives Solana users access to a canonical Solana representation of the Ethereum-based ERC-20 token, allowing SHIB to be traded directly within Solana's decentralized finance ecosystem.

Solana described SHIB as "one of the largest communities in crypto" and noted that the project has expanded beyond its origins as a dog-themed meme cryptocurrency. The deployment does not mean SHIB is leaving Ethereum or that Shibarium is moving to Solana. Instead, Sunrise brings the canonical form of the asset to Solana markets to avoid fragmented liquidity from unofficial versions.

Sunrise, powered by Wormhole Labs, is an asset gateway designed to bring external assets to Solana through canonical token recognition, liquidity provisioning, and integration with wallets, DEXs, and aggregators. The gateway launched in November 2025 with Monad's MON as its first major listing. Since then, Dogecoin arrived on Solana in September 2026, and PEPE followed on September 18.

Despite the broader on-chain trading options, SHIB showed little meaningful price reaction, trading around $0.0000057 at press time. Nevertheless, the integration substantially expands SHIB's presence across Solana's DeFi applications.
