Binance’s Ethereum reserves have dropped to their lowest level in six months, with CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost reporting that exchange holdings fell from 3.57 million ETH to 3.47 million ETH in just three days. The decline pushed reserves approximately 450,000 ETH below their August peak of 3.92 million ETH, an 11.5% reduction, as investors continued moving assets off the platform despite falling prices.
According to CryptoQuant, more than 320,000 Ethereum withdrawal transactions were recorded on October 6, the highest historical reading and above levels seen during the 2021 bull market. The withdrawal metric measures transfer frequency rather than total outflows, but the surge coincided with a sharp market correction: Ethereum shed 11% and lost about $38 billion in market capitalization, while the broader altcoin market lost more than $110 billion.
Darkfost linked the record activity to investors potentially shifting toward long-term holding, self-custody, staking, and yield-generating strategies. Rather than leaving Ethereum on Binance for immediate trading, holders may be waiting for more favorable conditions or deploying capital into staking protocols. Ethereum also accounts for about 65.7% of the tokenized commodity market, underlining its importance to the wider ecosystem.
As one of the largest crypto exchanges, Binance plays a central role in Ethereum liquidity and market sentiment. Traders are watching whether the withdrawal trend continues, as further outflows could tighten exchange liquidity and contribute to near-term price volatility.
