Telegram has begun broadly rolling out Money, a built-in non-custodial wallet that brings Gram transfers directly into chats and lets users buy digital gifts and collectible usernames. The feature appears in Telegram’s attachment menu under “Money,” allowing users to send Gram to another person inside a conversation without navigating token charts or order books.
The move follows a deliberate product split. Money handles simple Telegram-native payments, while Walt remains the separate application for trading, multi-asset custody, and broader crypto services. The Open Platform completed the rebranding from “Wallet in Telegram” to Walt on September 28, and CEO Andrew Rogozov described the platform’s evolution into a full financial ecosystem supporting more than 300 crypto assets across four blockchains, over 200 spot pairs, and 100 synthetic instruments.
Gram is the new name for Toncoin, while the underlying TON blockchain is unchanged. No swap, bridge, or new token issuance is required. Existing balances, addresses, staking positions, and assets ported over automatically after the June 15 rebranding. Telegram founder Pavel Durov first introduced the embedded wallet framework in July, and a limited cohort began receiving the feature on August 31. Validators approved the corresponding smart contract before public deployment.
Market data showed GRAM gained 9% to $1.56 on October 9, with 24-hour trading volume up 41% to $132.4 million. Market capitalization reached $4.12 billion. The Money wallet activates once an account receives an inbound transfer, and recipients can fund balances from Walt instantly and without network fees. Telegram emphasizes that users should never share recovery phrases or login codes, and should only use official wallet features.
