Bitcoin’s weekend price action has settled into a tight consolidation near $81,500 to $81,800, leaving traders focused on whether the market can hold critical support before the weekly close. According to data cited by Cryptonews and Live Bitcoin News on October 18, BTC is trading around $81,600–$81,800, with a 24-hour range between roughly $81,100 and $81,750. Market cap estimates near $1.64 trillion and daily trading volume figures range from about $13.97 billion to $15.8 billion.
The central level is $80,700. Analyst Don, known on X as DonWedge, noted that Bitcoin has retested the top of its consolidation box at $80,700 and held. That zone has been relevant since the September breakout, and he describes it as former resistance that is now acting as support. A daily close below that threshold, he warns, would put BTC back inside the box and expose the $75,500 box bottom.
On the upside, bulls need to clear resistance. Immediate selling pressure sits between $81,700 and $82,000, with a stronger confirmation level near $83,500. A decisive daily close above $83,500, ideally on rising volume, could open the path toward $85,000 and then a descending trendline near $86,200. Analyst Mister Crypto added that sell orders look relatively thin until about $87,000, while large buy clusters are stacked between $70,000 and $80,000.
Momentum readings remain mixed. The 14-day relative strength index is around 46 to 48.3, below the neutral 50 mark, and shorter-term moving averages are tilted toward sellers. Longer-term moving averages and a green Ichimoku Cloud projection, however, continue to support a broader recovery. Trading volume has moderated since the August breakout, and declining volume adds caution to the current rebound attempt.
Support below $80,700 includes the $79,000–$80,000 area and the $76,000–$77,000 zone. If buyers fail to defend support, the bearish scenario targets $75,500. A sustained move above $82,500 would begin repairing the short-term technical picture, but the market still faces resistance at $83,500 and the $86,200 trendline before any stronger bullish shift.
