Ethereum's upcoming Glamsterdam network upgrade is set to deliver a dramatic increase in the network's gas limit, from 60 million to 200 million, representing a roughly 3.3-fold boost in computational capacity per block. According to Ethereum researcher Toni Wahrstätter, Hoodi is the final testnet before Glamsterdam reaches mainnet, and the upgrade is scheduled to activate on Hoodi at epoch 132,352, slot 4,235,264 on October 26, 2026, at 17:42:48 UTC.
Glamsterdam follows its activation on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, 2026. The upgrade advances Ethereum's Layer 1 scaling roadmap through enshrined proposer-builder separation, block-level access lists, and gas pricing changes that better reflect execution and state growth costs. At the same epoch, Hoodi's gas limit will be raised to 200 million, matching Sepolia.
Wahrstätter noted that a future increase to 300 million gas could be a realistic next step after the 200 million target, though that milestone is not part of the confirmed Glamsterdam upgrade. Ethereum developers have not yet scheduled mainnet activation; it will be announced once client teams decide.
Looking further ahead, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said the Hegotá fork planned for 2027 may be Ethereum's last "normal" fork, with 23 EIPs under consideration, including FOCIL and Frame Transactions. After Hegotá, Ethereum's roadmap shifts toward recursive STARKs, automated formal verification, optimized consensus, and quantum safety. In the market, ETH was testing the $2,400 level as traders watched for a possible recovery toward $2,600.
