Monero (XMR) rallied past the $600 level on October 18, gaining roughly 6% during the day after veteran trader Peter Brandt issued a bullish assessment of the privacy-focused cryptocurrency. The breakout places the next major upside target near $630, according to market analysts.
The advance extends a broader recovery for Monero, which gained about 43% in August and crossed $500 for the first time since January following a breakout above longstanding resistance near $410. More recently, XMR traded near $555—up approximately 4% in 24 hours—with buyers testing the $558 resistance level. A confirmed daily close above that threshold opened the path toward $575, and the subsequent push above $600 has strengthened the bullish structure.
Several factors have supported Monero's momentum. THORChain’s upgraded infrastructure expanded cross-chain Monero swap alternatives without centralized exchanges, providing additional trading access amid restrictions on major platforms. Private wallet transfers also reduced available exchange supply, contributing to upward price pressure.
However, risks remain. Trading volume and swap growth have lagged behind price gains—ChangeNOW recorded only a 1.43% increase in XMR swaps in August compared with Monero’s 43% price appreciation. Leveraged positions, including a reported $14 million position opened with fourfold leverage, could increase volatility if liquidations occur. European Union regulatory restrictions on privacy-related cryptocurrency services are also expected to tighten beginning in 2027.
On the downside, $500 is considered critical support after its previous role as resistance, while a sustained break below that level could weaken the recovery structure.
