U.S. spot XRP exchange-traded funds posted their first weekly net outflow in three months during the October 12–16 period, ending a 13-week streak of positive flows. Data from SoSoValue showed the funds lost $1.84 million for the week, while cumulative net inflows remained near $1.8 billion. Friday’s $2.47 million redemption in Canary Capital’s XRPC accounted for most of the negative turn; without that single move, the group would have finished the week with roughly $630,000 in net inflows.
The negative week followed the prior week’s $11.31 million positive flow, which had extended the streak to 13 consecutive weeks. XRP Ledger payment volume also fell sharply on October 17 to 119.5 million XRP, a 72.3% single-day decline from a 30-day average of 629.3 million XRP. The metric has historically been volatile, so one weak session does not establish a structural decline in network usage.
Separately, spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs recorded net inflows during the third quarter of 2026, reversing a period of sustained outflows. The prior outflow stretch included nearly $1 billion in Bitcoin ETF outflows across two weeks and $320 million in weekly Ethereum ETF outflows. No verified aggregate dollar-flow totals were available for the Q3 reversal, but the change confirms net redemptions gave way to net subscriptions across the quarter.
Spot ETF flows matter because authorized participants must buy or sell the underlying asset when shares are created or redeemed. Renewed Bitcoin ETF inflows therefore represent direct regulated-venue demand rather than synthetic exposure. Ether’s Q3 inflow reversal carries additional weight because U.S. spot Ether ETFs currently do not pass through staking rewards, yet the turn suggests growing institutional willingness to hold Ether through regulated channels.
Neither flow reversal should be treated as a guaranteed price catalyst. ETF flows can reflect rotation from other exposure types, and they can reverse quickly. Earlier in 2026, spot Bitcoin ETFs posted $82.39 million in net outflows on a single October day, while a separate week brought $241 million in inflows. The key test is whether the Q3 inflow direction holds through Q4.
