Bitget, which describes itself as the world’s largest Universal Exchange (UEX), has announced a planned acquisition of GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a licensed digital asset exchange and brokerage based in Bangkok. The transaction will be pursued through its interest in BTGT Management (Thailand) Ltd., giving Bitget a regulated local foothold in one of Southeast Asia’s most active digital asset markets.
Under the proposed arrangement, GMO Internet, Inc. and its consolidated subsidiary GMO-Z.com Holdings (Thailand) Co., Ltd., along with other shareholders, will transfer their entire shareholding in the Thai firm to BTGT Management or an entity it designates at completion. The sale and purchase agreement remains subject to applicable regulatory approval and other conditions.
The Bangkok-based target already operates a licensed digital asset exchange and brokerage, offering Bitget existing local business experience and market knowledge. Bitget says the deal forms part of its broader evaluation of expansion opportunities across Southeast Asia, where demand for digital financial services is growing alongside evolving regulatory frameworks.
CEO Gracy Chen said: “Building a presence in a market requires local expertise, an understanding of the regulatory environment and a long-term commitment to the market. Thailand is an important part of Southeast Asia’s digital asset landscape, and this acquisition gives us a great opportunity to establish local operations in a thriving country.”
Following completion of the acquisition and the required change-of-control approval, Bitget intends to introduce its trading platform to Thai users, combining its global trading capabilities with the acquired company’s local operational experience while operating in accordance with Thai regulations.
