Grayscale announced on October 21, 2026, that it has expanded in-kind subscriptions to 10 digital asset investment products, allowing eligible investors to contribute tokens directly in exchange for shares rather than selling holdings for cash first.
The eligible lineup includes the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF, Ethereum Staking Mini ETF, and products tied to Avalanche, Chainlink, Dogecoin, Hyperliquid, Solana, Sui, XRP, and Zcash. Estimated minimum investments range from roughly $80,300 for the Solana Staking ETF to about $364,800 for the Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF, with actual amounts subject to change as crypto prices move.
According to Steve Vanourny, Head of Index at Grayscale, the option can reduce self-custody burdens and potentially lower execution costs. “As digital assets mature, investors are seeking more secure and efficient ways to manage their crypto holdings,” Vanourny said. “With growing cybersecurity threats, including self-custody and DeFi exploits, institutional custody is increasingly valuable.”
In-kind investing may also let investors access traditional brokerage and retirement accounts, collateral use, and portfolio management tools. Grayscale noted that in-kind transactions have become more common in the U.S. Bitcoin ETP market, with their share of activity rising from 28% in March to 62% in June.
The move follows the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s July 2025 approval of in-kind creations and redemptions for crypto ETPs. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said at the time: “It’s a new day at the SEC. Investors will benefit from these approvals, as they will make these products less costly and more efficient.”
