The cryptocurrency market extended its weekend slide on Monday, with Bitcoin (BTC) struggling to stay above the pivotal $80,000 level after briefly breaking below it several times. According to CoinGecko data cited by 36Crypto, BTC was down 0.9% over 24 hours at $80,016.68, while its market capitalization stood at about $1.60 trillion and 24-hour trading volume reached $17.95 billion.
Ethereum (ETH) led the decline among major assets, falling 1.8% to $2,317.16, with $8.05 billion in trading volume and a market cap of $283.07 billion. XRP dropped 1.7% to $1.29, BNB slipped 0.9% to $739.61, and Solana (SOL) lost 1.2% to trade near the $100 level at $100.94. Dogecoin (DOGE) was down 0.9% to $0.07684, while Monero (XMR) fell 3.5% to $588.76. In contrast, TRON (TRX) managed a 0.4% gain to $0.3299, and Zcash (ZEC) showed mixed data across sources, with one report showing a 0.2% decline to $1,204.16 and another showing a 2% gain.
Bitcoin’s fight for $80,000 has become the central market focus. CryptoPotato reported that BTC initially climbed last Tuesday and peaked near $85,000 on Wednesday, its highest level in two weeks, before being rejected and tumbling below $83,000 within hours. By Saturday, the sell-off pushed Bitcoin below $80,000, where it hit a five-week low of $79,100. It rebounded quickly but slipped back below the threshold several times on Sunday. At the time of writing, BTC remains just above $80,000, with its market cap around $1.610 trillion and dominance over altcoins at 60%, according to CoinMarketCap.
While large-cap assets were subdued, Quant (QNT) stood out with a powerful rally, surging nearly 18% to $221. Ethena (ENA) followed with a 6.6% gain to above $0.20. Other gainers included HYPE, NEAR, BCH, UNI, and LINK, though most rose by only small percentages. The total crypto market cap was essentially flat at $2.680 trillion on CoinMarketCap.
Smaller tokens also saw outsized moves. Big Titty Coin surged 101.7% to $0.0192 with $70.79 million in trading volume, Manadia climbed 79.1% to $0.03524, and TronBank advanced 59.4% to $0.2976. Abelian added 44.8%, Doodles rose 31%, Cap gained 24.7%, and Caldera increased 23.9%. These sharp gains showed that even during a broader market pullback, speculative buying continued in selected low-cap assets, while major coins remained under pressure.
