Chainlink Launches 24/7 Pricing Feeds for Tokenized Assets with Aave as First Partner

Key takeaways:

  • Chainlink’s 24/7 pricing strengthens LINK’s RWA narrative by solving DeFi’s weekend collateral blind spot.
  • Aave’s Horizon integration could boost AAVE utility, but off-hours perpetual-based prices raise liquidation-risk questions.
  • Watch $1.6B tokenized-stock coverage for oracle divergence risk during market closures and thin liquidity.

Chainlink has introduced Chainlink 24/7, a new pricing service designed to provide reference prices for tokenized stocks, commodities, and other traditional assets during weekends and holidays. The service addresses a critical issue for blockchain applications: while crypto markets operate around the clock, traditional financial markets close at night, on weekends, and on holidays, leaving on-chain protocols without reliable price updates.

The new infrastructure combines quotes from regular and extended trading sessions with off-hours reference prices derived from perpetual futures markets. When traditional exchanges are closed, the system switches to perpetual futures quotes, aggregates data from multiple platforms, filters out stale inputs, and limits the influence of outliers. Chainlink emphasizes that these off-hours prices reflect derivatives trading rather than actual transactions on closed traditional exchanges.

Aave will be the first protocol to integrate Chainlink 24/7 through Horizon, its institutional lending platform. Horizon allows qualified investors to borrow against tokenized assets, and the rollout will begin with tokenized versions of some of the most actively traded U.S. stocks. The integration is expected to improve collateral valuation and liquidation risk management even when stock exchanges are offline.

Lending protocols can receive prices directly onchain through Chainlink Data Feeds, while trading platforms and prediction markets can access faster updates through Data Streams. Data Streams will also identify the market session associated with each quote, enabling applications to adjust their risk parameters based on the source of the pricing data.

The launch follows Chainlink's January debut of 24/5 pricing for U.S. stocks and ETFs, which covered premarket, regular, after-hours, and overnight trading sessions on weekdays. According to Chainlink, that weekday infrastructure already supports pricing data for more than $1.6 billion in tokenized stocks. With the addition of weekend coverage, Chainlink is moving toward full-time pricing as tokenized equities and other real-world assets continue to expand onchain.
