Stellar has unveiled Project Thruput, a new execution model now live on FutureNet, its testing environment. Early benchmarks reached 7.02 million payments per second, a notable figure for blockchain scalability research.
Unlike traditional systems that depend on individual machine capacity, Project Thruput distributes execution across multiple machines. This design aims to overcome hardware limits that can restrict transaction processing as network activity grows.
The benchmark remains an early test result rather than confirmed mainnet throughput. Mainnet performance, consensus, data availability, and validation under real-world conditions still need to be evaluated. No timeline has been announced for a mainnet rollout, and the announcement did not detail effects on transaction fees or XLM price.
If successful, the technology could strengthen Stellar’s position in blockchain-based payments, stablecoin transactions, and high-volume financial applications.
