OKX has published its 49th consecutive Proof of Reserves report, disclosing $27.8 billion in primary assets as of November 1, 2026. The exchange said customer assets are backed at a ratio exceeding 1:1, a move designed to reinforce user confidence amid volatile market conditions and rising regulatory scrutiny.
In a separate statement, OKX founder and CEO Star Xu warned that no centralized exchange is absolutely safe, calling promises of invulnerable security a mistake. His comments follow the $6.3 billion cyberattack on Binance in late October, which he described as an urgent wake-up call for the industry. Xu said user protection must be a shared responsibility rather than a marketing advantage.
In response, OKX has reinforced internal audits, intensified real-time tracking of stolen funds to prevent laundering through its platform or DEX aggregator, and adjusted liquidity risk controls. Xu also criticized competitors who use other exchanges' crises as marketing opportunities, arguing that security requires technical cooperation and unified monitoring rather than commercial opportunism.
The developments highlight a broader shift toward coordinated response protocols among exchanges as the crypto industry faces heightened scrutiny over technical infrastructure and emerging risks, including vulnerabilities linked to AI-assisted development.
