Schroders Launches $1.1T Tokenized Bond Strategy on Solana

Key takeaways:

  • Schroders' EM debt tokenization validates Solana's RWA thesis, yet $100,000 minimum restricts retail SOL demand.
  • Complex EM credit exposure may temper institutional appetite despite Solana's $5.12 billion RWA growth.
  • Watch Solana RWA TVL and SOL activity for structural adoption signals beyond mixed crypto sentiment.

Schroders, one of the world's largest asset managers with approximately $1.1 trillion in assets under management as of June 2026, is expanding its tokenization push from money market funds to emerging market debt via the Solana blockchain. The London-based firm, founded more than 200 years ago, announced on November 4 that it has partnered with Centrifuge to bring its emerging markets bond strategy on-chain.

Under the arrangement, Centrifuge will issue and manage tokenized shares for the Schroders International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bonds feeder fund. Investors will hold blockchain-based feeder fund shares rather than direct ownership of the underlying bond portfolio. The feeder fund invests in Schroders' Emerging Market Bond Fund, keeping the underlying portfolio separate from the tokenized share class.

Schroders has managed emerging markets debt for more than 50 years and employs over 40 investment professionals dedicated to the asset class. The strategy buys government and corporate bonds from developing economies, with returns tied to interest rates, borrower credit conditions, and local currency movements. Centrifuge lists the product with a $100,000 minimum investment.

The launch adds to Solana's growing real-world asset ecosystem. Tokenized real-world assets on Solana reached $5.12 billion in November, according to RWA.xyz data. On November 2, Securitize added 13 tokenized stocks on Solana, bringing its lineup to 25 U.S. stocks, each token backed by a share held in custody.

Schroders previously secured approval in Ireland in August for a tokenized share class of its U.S. dollar money market fund, Schroders Onchain Active Returns. The emerging markets bond fund is a more complex step because it carries corporate and sovereign credit exposure across multiple countries and currencies.

The move reflects broader institutional momentum. Centrifuge already works with New York Life Investment Management on a high-yield corporate bond strategy on Solana that accepts USDC subscriptions from eligible investors. Federated Hermes, which manages about $911 billion, plans to issue its first tokenized fund shares in early 2027. Meanwhile, DTCC launched a tokenization service for securities in October, with JPMorgan, Citi, and Fidelity among the firms that signed agreements to use it.

While the broader crypto market has shown mixed signals, the Schroders-Solana integration highlights how traditional asset managers are increasingly using public blockchains for fund distribution and could attract more institutional participation to the Solana ecosystem.
