BNB Chain has launched Red Alarm, a security feature designed to help cryptocurrency users identify potentially dangerous decentralized applications and smart contracts before they approve transactions. The tool provides risk warnings that users can review before connecting wallets or authorizing on-chain activity, highlighting suspicious platforms without necessarily confirming fraudulent behavior.
The rollout comes amid heightened security concerns following Binance's multibillion-dollar breach in late October, which raised broader questions about asset protection across cryptocurrency infrastructure. BNB Chain stated that keeping users safe requires ongoing work, and Red Alarm contributes by flagging potentially high-risk dApps and contracts, giving users more information to evaluate.
Alongside Red Alarm, BNB Chain addressed a separate security vulnerability affecting the Reth blockchain client on November 6. The network confirmed that opBNB does not use op-reth, while the impact on BSC-Reth remained limited. BSC-Reth node operators were instructed to upgrade to version v0.1.4-hotfix and restart their nodes across both mainnet and testnet environments.
BNB Chain also outlined progress on the Jenner upgrade, which has reached the BSC testnet. Under BEP-703, the upgrade introduces Payment Lane, reserving 5% of each block's gas capacity for eligible payment transactions. This mechanism protects qualifying BNB transfers from competing with unrelated network activity for full block capacity, and approved token payments may also qualify for the reserved transaction capacity.
