Brian Armstrong, CEO and co-founder of Coinbase, has spearheaded a major move beyond crypto by raising $130 million in Series B funding for his longevity startup, NewLimit. This round, led by Kleiner Perkins, brings NewLimit's valuation to $810 million. NewLimit aims to extend human lifespan by reprogramming genes through advances in epigenetics, with early research focusing on reversing aging in liver and immune system cells. Armstrong, enriched by Coinbase’s IPO, views combating aging as crucial, inspired by rapid progress in other biotechnologies.

He is part of a broader shift, with tech figures like Jeff Bezos, Larry Ellison, and Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin also investing heavily in longevity research. Buterin, for instance, has donated both fiat and SHIB to related foundations. The field, though in its early stages, is seen as holding transformative potential for human health. Armstrong’s initiative highlights the tech sector's growing ambition to tackle fundamental biological limits.
