Ripple has announced a strategic partnership with Wormhole, a leading cross-chain messaging protocol, to integrate multichain support into the XRP Ledger (XRPL) and its forthcoming Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible sidechain. This collaboration aims to enable advanced interoperability across more than 35 blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Solana, and Avalanche.

The integration allows seamless transfer of XRP, issued assets, and Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs) across these networks, while also enabling developers to trigger smart contract functions on external chains by utilizing Wormhole's messaging infrastructure. Building on recent performance and regulatory upgrades to XRPL's core software (version 2.5.0), the partnership is intended to boost adoption among institutional users by facilitating compliant, low-cost, and fast settlement of multichain assets.

David Schwartz, Ripple's CTO, emphasized that interoperability is crucial for mass adoption and the evolution of XRPL. The expanded cross-chain capabilities aim to position the XRP Ledger as a flexible and secure alternative to other dominant blockchains such as Ethereum and Solana, particularly for use cases involving DeFi, tokenization, smart contracts, and tokenized real-world assets (RWAs). Notably, XRPL has been used to build Dubai's first real estate tokenization platform, demonstrating its growing traction in institutional blockchain services.

The partnership with Wormhole marks a significant step in Ripple’s broader strategy to enhance the utility of its native token XRP and related digital assets by breaking down barriers between blockchain networks, thus supporting the development of multichain applications focused on compliance and scalability.
