The Starknet (STRK) community has approved the v0.14.0 upgrade, scheduled for mainnet activation on September 1, 2025. This major update introduces decentralized sequencing using Tendermint consensus and a multi-sequencer architecture, enhancing censorship resistance, transaction fairness, and fault tolerance.

Key features include pre-confirmations enabling sub-second transaction feedback for near-finality, reducing wait times despite maintaining 4-6 second block times. The upgrade also implements an EIP-1559-based fee market with a minimum base fee denominated in FRI, decoupling Starknet gas costs from Ethereum (ETH) fluctuations to improve predictability.

Technical enhancements feature RPC 0.9.0 with updated statuses, optimized mempool design, and multi-block processing for efficiency. A 15-minute network outage is expected during deployment. This follows Starknet's July transition to STRK as its exclusive gas token and recent ecosystem developments like Extended DEX's launch and Bitcoin staking proposals.

While StarkWare will initially manage sequencers, v0.14.0 begins Starknet's roadmap toward full sequencer and prover decentralization.
