PayPal Integrates Bitcoin and Ethereum into New P2P 'Links' Feature, Expanding Crypto Accessibility

Global financial technology giant PayPal has launched a new peer-to-peer (P2P) payment feature called "Links," which enables users to transfer money using a one-time, shareable link that can be dropped into any conversation platform, including text messages and direct messages. Most significantly, PayPal announced that digital assets will be integrated into this same P2P flow, with support for Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and its own PayPal USD (PYUSD) stablecoin.

The rollout begins immediately for users in the United States, who can start creating personalized payment links today. International expansion to the United Kingdom, Italy, and other markets is scheduled to begin later in September 2025. This integration is designed to make sending cryptocurrencies as seamless as sending traditional currency, allowing users to send BTC, ETH, and PYUSD to other PayPal and Venmo users, as well as to a growing number of external digital wallets worldwide that support crypto and stablecoins.

This move continues PayPal's established history of crypto integration. The company first introduced crypto buying, holding, and selling services in the US before expanding globally. In 2021, it launched "Checkout with Crypto" for merchants and added crypto features to the Venmo app. The following year, it enabled transfers to external wallets, and in 2023, it rolled out its regulated PYUSD stablecoin.
