Stripe Launches Stablecoin Subscription Payments on Base and Polygon Networks

Stripe, the payments infrastructure giant, has launched support for recurring subscription payments using stablecoins, starting with USDC on the Base and Polygon networks. This integration, announced on October 14, 2025, allows businesses to accept subscription payments directly in stablecoins, with customers able to use over 400 compatible wallets.

A key innovation is a custom smart contract that enables one-time authorization for recurring payments, eliminating the need to sign each transaction manually. This reduces on-chain friction and makes the user experience similar to traditional credit card payments.

Merchants will receive automatic settlements in fiat currency through Stripe's billing system, unifying the experience via the Stripe Dashboard. This is particularly beneficial for businesses with recurring revenue models, which constitute nearly 30% of Stripe's user base.

The move enhances global efficiency, especially for companies like those in AI, where cross-border payments are costly and slow. For instance, Shadeform has cut transaction costs by half and improved settlement speed by migrating up to 20% of its volume to stablecoins.

Stripe President Will Gaybrick stated, "Across stablecoins and AI, Stripe’s role is to pull frontier technology out of the experimental and into the mainstream. With the advent of stablecoins and AI, we’re at the dawn of a new online economy."

This integration is expected to increase stablecoin volume and blockchain activity, with potential future expansions based on merchant feedback.
