The Aptos Foundation and Aptos Labs have entered a strategic partnership with Reliance Jio, India's largest telecom operator, to introduce a blockchain-based rewards platform tailored for Jio's subscriber base of over 500 million users. Announced during the Aptos Experience event, this collaboration marks a significant step in integrating blockchain technology into mainstream consumer services via telecom networks.

The platform is currently in beta testing with approximately 9.4 million users, as revealed by Jio's general manager and business head Pawas Chandra. He emphasized that the initiative aims to "bring blockchain into the practical aspects of daily digital life," focusing on real-world utility over speculative digital assets. Rewards will be delivered through Aptos' high-speed, low-cost layer-1 blockchain, with potential benefits including redeemable tokens for mobile data, subscriptions, or partner offers.

Aptos Labs is providing ongoing technical support to ensure the infrastructure can handle Jio's massive scale, leveraging Aptos' high-throughput blockchain known for fast finality and low transaction costs. This project represents one of the largest real-world deployments of Web3 infrastructure by any telecom operator to date, testing whether distributed systems can support hundreds of millions of daily interactions.

Reliance Jio, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries and the third-largest mobile network operator globally, has a history of digital innovation, including the January 2025 launch of JioCoin on the Polygon Network. The partnership aligns with India's regulatory environment, which encourages controlled blockchain experimentation while restricting cryptocurrency trading. No details have been disclosed on whether the rewards tokens will be tradeable or transferable outside the network.
