Ripple, a leading financial technology company, has announced collaborations with several prominent humanitarian organizations, including World Central Kitchen (WCK), Water.org, GiveDirectly, and Mercy Corps. These nonprofits are now leveraging Ripple’s blockchain-based payments platform and the Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin to improve the speed, transparency, and efficiency of aid delivery in underserved regions.
According to the announcement, the partnerships aim to address challenges in transferring funds quickly across borders, particularly in areas with limited banking infrastructure. Ripple Payments enables near-instant cross-border transactions without relying on traditional banking systems, allowing organizations to access digital asset benefits without directly handling cryptocurrencies. The U.S. dollar-backed RLUSD stablecoin is being used to streamline financial support, promote financial inclusion, and facilitate disaster relief operations.
World Central Kitchen, which has collaborated with Ripple since 2020, is using the technology to accelerate fund disbursements to local partners and restaurants in crisis zones, reducing payment settlement times from days to hours. Water.org has completed successful pilots in Latin America and plans to expand Ripple Payments for microfinance partners, improving access to water and sanitation solutions. Mercy Corps Ventures is testing RLUSD in Kenya for emergency cash and insurance payouts, while GiveDirectly is exploring similar pilots for parametric insurance and anticipatory cash transfers.
The RLUSD stablecoin has surpassed a market capitalization of $900 million within a year of its launch, underscoring its rapid adoption. This initiative highlights the growing role of stablecoins in transforming global financial systems by offering a low-cost, efficient alternative to traditional remittance services.
