Tether, the issuer of the world's largest stablecoin USDT, has acquired 961 Bitcoin (BTC) worth approximately $98.9 million, adding to its growing reserves. This transaction, sourced from a Bitfinex hot wallet and transferred to Tether's official Bitcoin address, is part of the company's strategy to diversify its holdings and allocate up to 15% of its net realized profits into Bitcoin.

With this purchase, Tether's total Bitcoin holdings now exceed 86,000 BTC, reinforcing its status as one of the top institutional holders globally. The move follows a previous $1 billion acquisition of 8,889 BTC in September, highlighting a consistent accumulation approach even as Bitcoin prices surged to over $106,000 and reached new all-time highs in November.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino has described Bitcoin as "the ultimate reserve asset," and this acquisition signals strong institutional confidence in Bitcoin's long-term value amid market volatility. The strategy aims to build a more resilient reserve model, reducing dependence on traditional financial assets and hedging against inflation.
