Ontology Cuts ONG Supply to 800 Million in Major Tokenomics Overhaul

Ontology, a prominent layer-1 blockchain, has executed a significant reduction in the total supply of its gas token, ONG, from 1 billion to 800 million tokens. This change follows a unanimous on-chain community vote held from October 28 to October 31, 2025, with 117,169,804 votes in favor and zero against, demonstrating strong consensus.

The proposal includes permanently locking assets equivalent to 100 million ONG in value, comprising ONT and ONG, to bolster liquidity and curb inflation. Jun Li, Founder of Ontology, emphasized, "This decision sets ONG on a clear, sustainable path with an 800 million cap, a permanent liquidity lock, and predictable emissions that support ONT stakers and simplify planning for developers."

Implementation is set for December 1, 2025, aligned with the MainNet v3.0.0 upgrade. Key adjustments involve extending the release period from 18 to 19 years while maintaining a constant emission rate of 1 ONG per second. Emissions will be allocated with 80% to ONT staking incentives and 20%, plus transaction fees, to ecological liquidity, aiming to enhance scarcity, stabilize rewards, and support long-term ecosystem growth.
