Flare has officially launched Smart Accounts version 1.3, a significant update that dramatically streamlines how XRP holders access decentralized finance (DeFi) on the Flare network. The core improvement reduces the multi-step process of minting FXRP and depositing into yield-generating vaults to a single signature from an existing XRP Ledger (XRPL) wallet, removing the need for separate Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) wallets, manual bridging, or gas token acquisition.
Under the new system, users simply choose a vault, sign one transaction with their XRPL wallet, and Flare’s smart contracts handle everything else. The process relies on the Flare Data Connector to verify the XRPL transaction, after which a smart contract automatically mints FXRP and deposits it into the selected yield strategy—all while the original XRP remains locked 1:1 on the XRPL in a fully non-custodial manner. Previously, onboarding required two separate XRPL signatures, making the new single-signature flow a major usability leap.
The upgrade comes as Flare’s XRPFi ecosystem sees rapid growth. Since February 2026, the total FXRP deployed across DeFi applications has surged nearly 75% from 82 million to 144 million. Over 40 million XRP is currently earning yield through Smart Accounts, and nearly 24,000 Smart Accounts have been created. According to Flare’s Chief Product Officer Filip Koprivec, “Millions of XRP holders have wanted access to DeFi, but the experience has been too complex. With Smart Accounts v1.3, users can go from XRP to yield with a single signature while remaining fully non-custodial.”
Version 1.3 also introduces the Clearstar Flare XRP Yield Vault, offering a fully on-chain strategy that deploys FXRP across lending and liquidity protocols such as Avant and Euler, with all positions publicly verifiable. It joins the existing Monarq XRP Yield Vault, which combines options trading, basis trading, funding-rate capture, and on-chain opportunities. Both vaults are actively managed, giving users more choices. Clearstar has previously managed over 33 million FXRP through earlier deployments.
Wallet support has been broadened to include Ledger, Xaman, Joey Wallet, WalletConnect (including Bifrost), and D’CENT. Joey Wallet has integrated Flare Smart Accounts directly as an embedded decentralized application, allowing users to mint FXRP and deposit into vaults without ever leaving the wallet interface. Joey Wallet co-founder Christopher Troia noted, “There’s a lot of overlap between the XRPL and Flare communities, so integrating Flare Smart Accounts just made sense. It brings a breath of fresh air for XRP holders, letting them start putting their XRP to work in a seamless way.”
The update underscores Flare’s mission to bridge XRP into DeFi with minimal friction, leveraging its data infrastructure to deliver a one-click yield experience while maintaining full user custody.
