Chainlink has launched CustodySync, a system designed to connect institutional assets held in qualified custody with decentralized finance lending markets. Announced on Oct. 26, the initiative arrives days before Chainlink’s Link:NYC event on Oct. 29, where further announcements are expected.
Anchorage Digital Bank is the launch partner. It will use its Atlas Collateral Management product to manage collateral and loan operations. Under the arrangement, a transfer-restricted receipt token represents custodied collateral onchain, while Chainlink supplies matching prices to both custody and lending systems through Data Feeds and Data Streams.
Chainlink’s design uses Proof of Reserve to publish custody balances onchain. The receipt token carries no claim on the underlying assets outside that integration. Borrowed funds move directly from the lending market to the borrower. Chainlink’s Runtime Environment coordinates authorized actions and updates custody records.
When a position reaches its liquidation threshold, an appointed collateral agent handles the sale. CustodySync records committed proceeds onchain before final settlement. Nathan McCauley, Anchorage Digital’s CEO and co-founder, said: “Institutions should not have to choose between qualified custody and onchain liquidity.”
Anchorage’s Atlas documentation describes an agency service for institutional lending, with separate responsibilities for holding collateral and monitoring transactions. Borrowers and lenders sign bilateral agreements covering eligible assets, loan-to-value thresholds, cure periods, and required responses. Atlas monitors positions around the clock and can trigger notifications, partial liquidation, full liquidation, or transfer of collateral.
Anchorage also highlighted an existing collaboration with Spark that lets institutions borrow against Bitcoin held at Anchorage Digital Bank. In that arrangement, Anchorage acts as Spark’s collateral agent for loan-to-value monitoring, payments, margin calls, and liquidations. The announcement did not disclose borrower identities or aggregate loan amounts.
As of the announcement, no significant price movements or trading volumes were reported for Chainlink, suggesting market participants are waiting for the Link:NYC event. The broader market is experiencing mixed momentum, but stakeholders are watching whether CustodySync can drive institutional adoption and new partnerships.
